Anira Khokhar is appointed as the diocesan Racial Justice Adviser

We are delighted to share that, thanks to a grant from the Racial Justice Unit, we have been able to appoint Anira Khokhar as our Diocesan Racial Justice Adviser, for a period of one year. She will work with the Lament to Action Group to explore how we are living out the fourth mark of mission, and to help guide and support the diocese as we continue to develop and embed our commitment to racial justice.

Anira brings experience in advocacy, research, and community engagement, and has previously worked with organisations seeking to address structural inequalities and to promote inclusive leadership.

Anira recently carried out a Racial Justice Audit and report for the Diocese of Bath and Wells, she said, "I am proud to continue this vital work on racial justice across the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

“Building on the findings of the racial justice audit I undertook, I look forward to supporting the diocese in delivering its recommendations, strengthening the progress already underway, and embedding a culture of unity, inclusion and belonging.”

Speaking about Anira’s appointment Bishop Michael said, “We are delighted to welcome Anira to her new role. She brings wisdom, experience and a deep commitment to racial justice that will help guide and strengthen our shared commitment as we continue this important work together. Racial justice is not a single initiative but a sustained commitment to listening, learning and transformation, as we grow together into a more just and inclusive diocese. This is about ensuring lasting, transformative change that is fully integrated across every aspect of of diocesan life."

Anira will support parishes to develop guidance, offer training and contribute to the ongoing shaping of policy and practice within the diocese.
